<pre data-block="statement">What this chapter covers | The chāyā-vyavahāra uses the shadow of a śaṅku (gnomon) and similar triangles to find the height of a lamp or pillar, or to reckon time — the same proportional reasoning as the peacock-and-snake, applied to light. Its rule: gnomon height is to its shadow as object height is to its shadow, so one measured shadow unlocks an unmeasurable height.</pre>
