It opens with the origin story — the asura Maya winning the knowledge of the planets from the Sun — then defines Time as twofold, the world-destroyer and the reckonable. From a single breath it builds a ladder of units up to the day, the four kinds of month, and the 4:3:2:1 yuga algorithm that yields the Mahāyuga of 4,320,000 years. Chapter 14 closes the arc by naming the nine modes (māna) of reckoning time, four of which still run daily life.</pre>
