The Sphuṭacandrāpti opens with an invocation, states its purpose, and — remarkably — has Mādhava name himself and ask his readers' goodwill. Its mathematical heart is a rule for finding the Moon's true position each day from a set of NINE vākyas ("sentences"), using the kaṭapayādi system in which large numbers are encoded as Sanskrit words. It closes with the lovely image of climbing a bamboo, which gives its companion work the Veṇvāroha its name.</pre>
