<pre data-block="statement">What this chapter covers | The Golapāda (50 verses) — the longest pāda — is SPHERICAL ASTRONOMY. It describes the round earth-globe at the centre of the sphere of stars (Gola 6), argues that the Earth ROTATES on its axis using the famous boat-and-bank analogy (Gola 9), explains eclipses by SHADOW rather than demons, and works out the geometry of latitudes, day-length, risings and settings. Reason and calculation in place of myth. A few of its verses follow as examples.</pre>
