It computes the positions, velocities, conjunctions, risings and eclipses of the Sun, Moon and planets using sine-tables, epicycle models and careful geometry, aiming always at prediction verified against the sky. Its deepest idea, which we read here in Bhāskara's own verses, is tātkālikī gati — instantaneous motion — a genuine germ of the derivative.</pre>
