<pre data-block="statement">What this chapter covers | Most of the Brāhmasphuṭasiddhānta is mathematical astronomy — the positions and motions of the Sun, Moon and planets, eclipses, and the calendar. Its very title, "the CORRECTLY-established doctrine", declares Brahmagupta's aim of improving on earlier siddhāntas. To compute between the entries of his sine-tables he devised a SECOND-ORDER interpolation, an early form of what Europe would later call the Newton–Stirling formula. We also record honestly where he judged wrongly.</pre>
