The Īśa Upaniṣad — the Universe Enveloped by the Lord
From The Īśa Upaniṣad, taught by Acharya T Krishnatrey. This lesson is free to read.
The **Īśa Upaniṣad** (Īśāvāsya Upaniṣad) is one of the shortest and most revered of the principal Upaniṣads — just **eighteen mantras**, forming the **fortieth and final chapter of the Śukla Yajurveda**. Uniquely among the Upaniṣads it sits within the Saṃhitā (the ritual mantra portion) itself. In a handful of verses it holds a complete vision: the whole world is pervaded by **Īśa**, the Lord; live by renunciation, not greed; the **Self** both moves and moves not; and knowledge and action must be joined. <pre data-block="quote">"All this — whatever moves in this moving world — is enveloped by the Lord. Enjoy through renunciation; covet no one's wealth." — Īśa Upaniṣad, mantra 1</pre>
