The Suśruta Saṃhitā — The Dawn of Surgery
From The Suśruta Saṃhitā, taught by Acharya T Krishnatrey. This lesson is free to read.
The **Suśruta Saṃhitā** is the world's foundational treatise of **surgery (śalya-tantra)**. Taught by the divine physician **Dhanvantari** to his pupil **Suśruta** at ancient Kāśī, it records an astonishing surgical science — over a hundred instruments, dozens of operations, cataract couching, plastic reconstruction of the nose, cadaver dissection and a humane code of training. For this, Suśruta is honoured across the world as **the Father of Surgery**. <pre data-block="quote">"He who knows only surgery or only medicine is like a bird with one wing." — the spirit of the Suśruta Saṃhitā, on the wholeness of the healer's art</pre>
